Sikkim Govt to keep NH-10 open for Army vehicles alone

By A correspondent

GANGTOK, June 20 - The Sikkim Government has decided to keep the NH-10 open for movement of only Army vehicles. The decision was taken after an all-party meeting called by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss the border standoff with China. Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh was also present in the meeting.

The Sikkim Government has made it clear that it is a precautionary step, and that there is no border dispute with China with regard to Sikkim.

Spokesperson of the ruling Sikkim Krantikari Morcha Jacob Khaling stated that in order to extend support to the country under the current situation, the national highway would be kept open only for emergency Army vehicles.

He said the same could also be made applicable to connecting roads if the need arises. All the connecting highways can also be kept free for Army movement by restricting civilian vehicle movement, he added.
