Sikkim Assembly passes resolution on Gorkhaland

By The Assam Tribune

GANGTOK, March 29 The Sikkim Assembly today passed a resolution which stated that the formation of Gorkhaland is the only solution to ensure free movement of traffic on NH 31A the life line of the State and vital for peace, security and development of Sikkim.

Speaking on the resolution, Chief Minister said that disturbances in Darjeeling had shown no signs of let-up over the years which resulted in the disruption of free movement of traffic and that the remedy lay only in a permanent solution.

Recalling that the problem in Sikkim started as early as 1985, the CM said that on account of the frequent shut-downs of the NH, the States economic loss was Rs 50 crore daily.

The resolution stated, The hopes and aspirations deeply embedded in the hearts and minds of the people of Darjeeling for the State of Gorkhaland have been pending for a very long time which are genuine, legitimate, justified and within the framework of the Constitution."
