Siddeque supporters demand Gogois resignation

By Correspondent

SILCHAR, July 24 A day after Border Area Development Minister Siddeque Ahmed was axed from the Tarun Gogoi-led Congress ministry in the State, supporters of the axed minister gave vent to their anger burning effigies of the Chief Minister demanding his resignation. They were also unhappy for Irrigation Minister Dr Ardhendu Dey who was also dropped from the cabinet.

While a section of the Siddeque supporters had called a 12-hour Barak bandh on Wednesday, the bandh was called off due to ongoing Ramzan. However, the protesters under the Cachar Pratibadi Mancha made it clear that if the minister duo is not included with due honour in the ministry within a fortnight, they will not hesitate to launch a massive protest after the holy Eid-ul Fitr, the consequence of which will be bitter.

Maqsood Ahmed Barbhuiya, central president of the North East Minority Organisation said that Siddeque Ahmed had raised his voice against the merciless killing of the religious minorities and non-Bodos in the recent violence in the BTAD which is why he was removed from the ministry.

Tarun Gogoi is a cancer eating into Assam. If he is not removed from his chair, the development and peace in the State will be in serious danger, Barbhuiya said.
