Siang turbidity linked to local factors

By Ajit Patowary

GUWAHATI, Aug 7 - Siang has again turned turbid. But this time, said the States Water Resources Department (WRD) sources, its turbidity has become a fleeting one and it may be linked with the obstructions created by some landslide in the upstream Arunachal Pradesh, not in China.

Highly placed WRD sources told this newspaper that some obstructions were created to the flow of the river by some incidents of landslide in the neighbouring state. The change in the water quality of the river has been observed for the past about three days. But no abrupt change in the water level of the river has been observed in the downstream areas.

WRD sources maintained that so far there is nothing to be concerned over the water level of the river. The WRD is in constant touch with the Central Water Commission (CWC) on the matters related to the water level, water quality, etc., of the river, sources said.

Meanwhile, the turbidity of the Siang water has also been found decreasing, sources said.
