Showcause notice issued to Hek

SHILLONG, April 5 - The District Election Officer, West Jaintia Hills, has issued a showcause notice to Meghalaya Health Minister AL Hek for using a government vehicle for a political campaign.

Chief Election Officer Fredrick Roy Kharkongor said the notice was issued today to the Minister by the DEO following an inquiry conducted on violation of the model code of conduct.

Under the model code of conduct, Ministers and legislators are not allowed to use government vehicles for political campaigns.

Hek, who is from the BJP, went on a campaign for party candidate Sanbor Shullai for the Shillong Lok Sabha seat, in Jowai on Wednesday. He was pictured using a government vehicle for the campaign.

After the picture went viral on social media, the CEO ordered an inquiry and followed it up with the showcause notice.
