Shot in the arm for Raijor Dal at Jorhat

JORHAT, Dec 26 - In the run-up to Assembly polls slated next year, the newly-formed Raijor Dal political party as part of its drive to enlist members, on Saturday welcomed about 150 people, many reportedly from the ruling BJP and the Opposition Congress parties beside from student organisations.

Social workers, businessmen, leading citizens across Jorhat district too were among those who joined the new party.

The new members, including several women, joined the party in a function held at the Sankardev Kalakristi Aru Gabekhana audtorium here, which was presided over by the state convener and also the Jorhat district unit president of Raijor Dal, Dibyajyoti Sarmah.

Social worker and owner of a popular bookstall here Mridula Choudhury, youth wing BJP leader and member Bimal Saikia and Rituraj Bordoloi respectively, former Youth Congress leader and a noted businessman of Mariani Anowar Hussain, Bolin Baruah, a Youth Congress leader of 49 Gaon Panchayat, Debojit Bordoloi, Youth Congress leader of Dhekiajuli Mondal were among those who joined the party.

The new members were administered oath of joining Raijor Dal. The Raijor Dal Jorhat district general secretary Surjya Mohan Das, earlier delivered the welcome address and stated the purpose of the function. The working president of Raijor Dal, Dilip Kumar Bordoloi and other office-bearers of the party were present in the ceremony.

Dibyajyoti Sarmah, while welcoming the new party members, explained the aims and objectives of the new party and urged them to work hard to expand the party base by reaching out to people and to highlight the �misdeeds� of the incumbent governments in the State and at the Centre and about the earlier Congress governments in both Dispur and Delhi.

Harping on regionalism, Sarmah said that the party was totally for repeal of the Citizenship Amendment Act, 2019.

It may be mentioned here that on Thursday the president of AGP of 35 No. GP of Jorhat district Rajib Dutta, also a former GP president and several other people had joined Raijor Dal at the party's district office here.

The new party held its Jorhat district convention here on December 11 which was attended by the party�s top leaders that included eminent filmmaker Jahnu Baruah.
