Shortage of water hits flood-affected

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, June 28 Shortage of water has become a major problem for the waterlogged areas of Guwahati city as the concerned authorities failed to supply water to the affected areas, while, the affected people also could not bring in private water tankers because of water level.

The people of worst hit Anil Nagar and Nabin Nagar areas had to survive without water and electricity since yesterday and only this evening the Urban Water Supply and Sewerage Board managed to supply water for a short time and electricity connection was restored this evening.

Same is the case with the people of the lanes of the Rajgarh Road and Sub Sarania area of the city as most of them did not get any water supply. Frequent power cuts also added to the miseries of the people.

The administration supplied biscuit and water bottles in the Anil Nagar and Nabin Nagar areas but the residents alleged that most people did not get the Government relief. Two one litre bottles of water were provided to each family of the lanes of Rajgarh Road this morning, which was hardly adequate.

The affected people will have to face more problems after the water level recedes as most of the household items were damaged, while, cleaning the houses will also be an easy task. Majority of those who have vehicles of their own will also face problems in the days to come as the vehicles were under water for days and the condition of those can be ascertained only after the water level comes down.
