Short colourful programme mark the day

BOKAKHAT, Aug 16 - The 71st Independence Day was celebrated centrally by the civil administration of Bokakhat subdivision with a short colourful programme.

ADC Dwijen Das, in charge of Bokakhat subdivision, unfurled the Tricolour amid a huge gathering of government officials, leading citizens, students and general people. Addressing the meeting, Das offered glowing tribute to the martyrs who dedicated their lives and services for the freedom of the mother land and remembered Swahid Kamala Miri, Swahid Kusal Konwar etc., for their sacrifices.

He also highlighted some of the developmental works executed by the government in the subdivision. Earlier, police personnel and students of different schools exhibited march-past on the ground. The Bokakhat Town High Cchool and Bokakhat Higher Secondary School bagged the first and second prizes in the march-past contest, respectively.

At Diphu: With the rest of the country, the 71th Independence Day was celebrated here in Diphu of Karbi Anglong. Before hoisting of the national flag, numbers of programmes were performed by the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council as well as the district administration in the morning.

The celebration began with playing of patriotic songs in the office of the DIPRO, Diphu, from 5 am to 6 am. The national flag was hoisted at private buildings, institutions and government office buildings and educational institutions from 6 am to 7 am.

The garlanding of Mahatma Gandhi�s statue and Swahit Tarpan was performed at Gandhi Park in Diphu by the dignitaries. Later, all assembled at the parade ground. The national Tricolour was unfurled by Tuliram Ronghang, CEM, KAAC, at Diphu HS School playground.
