GUWAHATI, Sept 30 The gateway to the North East is ready to indulge in festivities. With Maha Sasthi today announcing a package of spiritualism, fanfare and entertainment awaiting the pandal hoppers, citizens from all walks of life were seen giving final touches to their preparations.
A clear sky added more to the enthusiasm of the citizens in the capital city. They crowded the markets and malls making purchases for themselves and their near and dear ones. All the arterial roads witnessed heavy traffic congestion as everyone seemed to be outside their home.
The different puja pandals in the city are also ready to welcome the devotees. Beautifully illuminated and highlighting a wide range of social themes, the puja pandals have already started attracting footfalls of the pandal hoppers. Many puja committees have scheduled cultural programmes and organizing various contests on the occasion.
Inflation it seems has not in any way hampered the arrangements of the puja committees. No stone has been left unturned to make the pandals attractive.
On the other way, the festive season also means brisk business for the seasonal vendors. For vendors like Naren and others, selling jelebis during this season is a profitable venture. This favourite is served hot by Naren and others, who have set up temporary kiosks for the season. Celebration of this autumn festival is incomplete without taking a bite of this sweet.
I have selected several dresses for all the days of the festival, said an enthusiastic Nirmali, a college student. For the young and fashion conscious, this is also an occasion to flaunt their latest collection in the wardrobe.
For a section, the festival is also an occasion to seek spiritual solace. These devotees always pray for strength to triumph over evil and all temptations. For me the festival is a moment for spiritual rejuvenation. I dont endorse gaudy celebration and so avoid the crowd, said Amit Sarma.
