TEZPUR, Feb 26 - The Shiva temples located in and around this mythological town, including Mahabhairab, Ketekaswar, Holeswar, Naleswar, Tingeswar, Biswanath, Nagsankar and Singri Gupteswar temples wore a festive look as the people in large number thronged these temples during the last couple of days to offer puja to the Lord Shiva.
Some temple committees have held elaborate programmes, including presentation of bhaona, in order to attract devotees.
As Shivaratri is the most significant festival celebrated in Mahabhairab Temple here, the puja organising committee planned the occasion with great pomp and religious fervour this time with a view to attract more number of visitors.
Its worth mentioning that the ancient temple of Mahabhairab situated at the north of the historic Tezpur town is believed to have been established by king Bana with a Shiva lingam. Hence, this has been a must visit destination for the devotees and other visitors for ages.
On the other hand, along with the famous Mahabhairab Temple, the Singri Gupteswar Temple located on the southern part of Dhekaijuli town in Sonitpur district is another crowd-pulling destination. Like in the past, this year too, a week-long mela has been organised at the venue.
Meanwhile, the famous Holeswar Temple located some 10 km to the north of Tezpur town, the Ketekaswar Temple, Naleswar, Tingeswar and Nagsankar near the town along with the Biswanath Temple, have witnessed hundreds of visitors thronging the temple during the last couple of days seeking the blessing of Lord Shiva.
