Shillong school wins CBSE soccer title

GUWAHATI, Nov 5 - Army Public School, Shillong has won the CBSE Cluster 1 soccer tournament by defeating St Clarets School, Borjhar 2-0 in the finals today at Miles Bronson Residential School playground. In an all round display of superlative football, the Shillong team dominated proceedings right from the word go. Babidor Dorphang, captain of the Army Public School netted the first goal in the 17th minute via a penalty kick. Albert Paite of the same team made it 2-0 in the 47th minute by converting a penalty kick.

Earlier in the day, the Shillong team edged out Kaziranga English Academy via tie breaker while St Clarets stunned Don Bosco, Panbazar in the penalty shootout. Babidor Darphang of Army Public School, Shillong was declared the Best Player, Anuj Das of St Clarets School was adjudged as the Best Goalkeeper and S Guite of Kaziranga English Academy received the Best Striker Award. South Point School, Guwahati was declared as the Best Disciplined Team.

In the play-off for the third position, Don Bosco defeated Kaziranga English Academy 5-4 to claim the second runners-up position. KK Choudhary, regional officer of CBSE, North East Region was the chief guest and gave away the prizes.
