Shillong police cracks whip on public nuisance

SHILLONG, Oct 14 - The East Khasi Hills district police has kept the Meghalaya Government treasury cash counter busy by collecting over Rs 10 lakh in fines realised from non-FIR cases during August and September this year.

�A total of 420 persons were convicted and fines of Rs 10,25,000 were realised from them by the court as fines,� police said.

The cases were registered against those �consuming alcohol in public places, committing nuisance, indecent acts in place like Golf Link by couples, reckless driving and disturbing peace at night,� the police also said.

The district police have recently installed several CCTV cameras in 30 locations of the district, to nab people who commit such kind of public nuisance.

Meanwhile, during September, Shillong Traffic Police detected 2,284 traffic violations and realised fines of Rs 8,28,200 which were deposited into Government Treasury.

The police said that in the run up to Puja celebrations, Shillong Traffic Police will be very strict with illegal parking and will resort to towing of vehicles.
