Shillong limps back to normalcy

SHILLONG, June 6 - With normalcy limping back and no fresh case of violence reported from any area, curfew was relaxed in the state capital today by two more hours. The curfew will now remain imposed in the city from 6 pm to 5 am, barring the violence-hit areas.

In the 14 city localities that saw large-scale violence in the past few days, the curfew was today relaxed from 7 am to 12 noon to allow people to come out of their homes and buy essential commodities.

The administration has further relaxed the curfew in these areas by two hours tomorrow. The curfew relaxation would now be from 7 am to 2 pm. Traffic on the street today was normal with offices, banks, shops and educational institutions open. However, there was also a sense of unease and several people returned indoors before the curfew hours.
