Shillong Lajong in semis

By Sports reporter

GUWAHATI, Sept 11 Shillong Lajong Football Club made it to the last-four stage of the Gauhati Town Club (GTC) Challenge Football Tournament.

In the fast-paced second quarterfinal of the meet at the Judges Field here this evening, the Shillong team defeated local outfit Food Corporation of India (FCI) Sports Club 4-2 via tie-breaker. No team could break the deadlock during the regulation time.

The Shillong team started the proceeding on a positive note and were unlucky not to go ahead in the very second minute of the game.

They combined well in the upfront and kept the FCI defenders busy with series of moves. Christopher Chizoba, P Lalhlimthara and Boithang Haokip, with their collective effort created several openings but due to ill directed shots at the goal they stumbled.

However, FCI defenders Akan Khaklary, Sachin Basumatary, Birdwm Basumatary and Lanjik Rongmei put up a spirited show and successfully defended their fort.

FCI attacking line, led by Thomson Langthasa, was a danger to the Shillong defenders but finally their moves were thrown away by timely anticipation.

For Lajong, John D Monyonger, Boithang Haokip, James Gbicee and Lal Ramluaha were the successful shooters in the tie breaker while for FCI only Birdwm Basumatary and Laldingheta could hit the target.

Todays matches (Q/F): Assam Rifles vs NF Rly; Ar Hima vs Green Valley.
