MUMBAI, Dec 10 (IANS): The acclaimed Shillong Chamber Choir will kick off the fortnight-long Christmas celebrations here Sunday with a live mega-concert at the historic Chowpatty Beach, an organiser said.

The choir will also unveil the English version of patriotic song "Vande Mataram" in the presence of the Gujarat police officer Sanjiv Bhatt and other dignitaries, said Abraham Mathai, chairman of Mumbai Christmas Festival.

Choir member William Basaiawmoit said that the entire group, which includes 18 singers and four musicians, will take part in the hour-long beach event Sunday evening.

"We have scheduled around four public concerts and the song recording of 'Vande Mataram' in English version at the Yashraj Studios Wednesday. We are finalising another major concert for Dec 21 here," Basaiawmoit told IANS.

The group gripped the imagination of music lovers all over the country by their magical performances which bagged them the crown in the TV reality show "India's Got Talent".

They also performed before US President Barack Obama in November 2010 during his official trip to India, where he praised them as among the best choirs in the world, Mathai said.
