Sharad Shirapa awards presented

HAILAKANDI, Oct 27 - The Hailakandi Press Club gave away eight Sharad Shirapa awards to different puja committees in various categories in memory of various persons of the district. Three artistes were also awarded with trophies and certificates.

The secretary of Hailakandi Press Club, Amit Ranjan Das informed that they have been engaged in awarding Sharad Shiropa since the last three years to encourage puja committees and artistes and the awards are given by the members of the press club by visiting the puja premises.

This year, a team of two members comprising retired teachers Promode Chandra Nath and Rabindranath Kashyap visited all the puja pandals of the district along with the members of press club on the day of Saptami and selected the eight puja committees and three artistes for the awards. Idol maker Hari Paul, pandal decorator Uttam Saha and light artiste Tunu Nath were awarded by the press club. The award giving meetings in the eight different places was presided over by the president of Hailakandi Press Club, Ujjal Kumar Das.

The best theme award was given to Annapurna Club of Hailakandi town and they were awarded with the late Sunitibala Biswas trophy. They made idols and pandals in the Tibetan style and showcased the Buddhist culture. The Deputy Commissioner of Hailakandi, Malay Bora, gave the award to the committee. The special Late Dipti Rekha Ghosh trophy was given to Tarun Sangha for displaying and encouraging handicrafts made of bamboo and maintaining eco-friendly environment. This award was given by Social Welfare Minister Gautam Roy and MLA of Algapur, Mandira Roy. The idol of Tarun Sangha was made of Bengal�s hogla leaves (Typha angustata). Lalamukh tea garden Durga Puja committee was awarded with Late Prabir Kumar Nath trophy as best tea garden Durga Puja of the district. The best rural Durga Puja award was given to Umednagar Jora Kalibari Durga Puja committee and was awarded Late Ramesh Chandra Reang trophy. This rural puja was selected out of 235 rural Durga Pujas of the district. The idol of Meghdoot Club of Rabindra Sarani was adjudged as the best idol this year and was awarded the Late Mukul Chandra Deb trophy. Shiv Bari Sevak Sangha of Hailakandi town was given Late Ranjit Kumar Saha trophy for best lighting. They displayed the ill-effects of tobacco through lighting. The best pandal award was given to Katlicherra Chowringhee Sarbojanin Durga Puja committee. They were given Late Hirendra Chandra Chakraborty trophy. The Barowari Durga Puja committee of Hailakandi town was given Late Kshirodebashini Mishra trophy for discipline and reception.
