Sharad Samman awards declared in Cachar

SILCHAR, Nov 20 - The Cachar district administration has declared the names of the winners of the Sharad Samman 2015.

Deputy Commissioner S Viswanathan along with three Additional Deputy Commissioners AR Sheikh, Baranya Das and Ashim Bhattacharjee with other officials of the district administration and committee members who adjudicated the results gave away the first prize of Rs 12,000, a trophy and certificate to Dakshin Bilpar Puja Committee, second prize of Rs 8000, trophy and memento to the Kali Mohan Road Puja Committee while the Pashim Ambikapur Puja Committee won the third prize of Rs 5000 along with a memento and a trophy.

Special prizes were given to Jhalupara Puja Committee, Apollo Club Meherpur Shivalik Park Puja Committee and the Bhakatpur Sarbajanin Puja committee.

S Viswanathan said that people of the district, especially Silchar, played a positive role in conducting Durga Puja in a peaceful manner. �It feels great to see that people have not allowed antisocial elements to disturb peace and harmony during the biggest festival and people deserve congratulations,� Vishwanathan said.

Echoing the deputy commissioner, Cachar SP Rajveer Singh said Durga Puja is meant for ushering in peace and people have voluntarily cooperated with the administration and police. �Our focus was to check traffic and it was impressive to see that everyone volunteered to maintain peace�, he said. Local MLA Dilip Paul said the coordination between people police and administration was a sign that people of the district are peace loving.

Meanwhile, Rotaract Club, Silchar also declared the results of its Sharad Samman competition for Durga puja this year where the Dakshin Bilpar Durga Puja Committee was awarded the Rotaract Sharad Samman award.

Apollo Club of Meherpur and Ananda Parishad of Tarapur secured the second and third positions respectively in this category.

Amit Roy, chairman of the award Committee said, the club has honoured the puja committees of the town in 18 categories. Among the other categories of awards, in idol (spiritual) category, College Road Ashram Road Durga puja Committee secured the first position while Ambikapur Chourangi Durga puja Committee and Premtala Sarbojonin Durga Puja Committee bagged the second and third prizes respectively.

In modern idol category, All Medical Sales Durga Puja Committee bagged the first prize while Shyama Prasad Road and Deshabandhu Road Durga Puja Committee won second and third prizes respectively.

The puja organised by the Cachar district administration was awarded as the best puja in punctuality and discipline category. Arya Patty Durga Puja Committee was selected the best in Indian culture and tradition category. Paschim Ambikapur Sarbojonin Durga Puja Committee won the prize in cleanliness category. The best pandal award was bagged by Tarapur Motor Stand Puja Committee. For best decorative lighting, the award went to Tarapur Rice Mill Sarbajanin Durga Puja Committee. Panchayat Road Mahila Sarbajanin Durga Puja Committee won the award for anti-noise pollution category. The award for best theme went to East Singeri Sarbajanin Durga Puja Committee, while Itkhola Manipuri Mandap bagged the award for disciplined immersion of the idol. On the other hand, Udharband Kalibari Road Sarbajanin Durga Puja Committee was presented a special Rotaract Award.
