Sham-e-Mehfil at Nalbari today

NALBARI, Oct 6 - With an aim to generate communal harmony among people, a unique cultural festival Sham-e-Mehfil will be celebrated at Nalbari Natyamandir on October 7. This cultural event has been organised for 18 years uninterruptedly. A popular parody singer Dost Hannan is behind the idea of this programme, which has been promoting unity and culture in the district. The cultural event will be inaugurated by Nipon Goswami, popular cine artiste at 7 pm.

The programme will start with tributes to Trailokya Nath Goswami, an architect of Nalbari and Ratan Lahkar, a doyen of mobile theatre by Dr Basanta Kumar Bhattacharya and Basistha Goswami. The inaugural programme to be presided over by Ganesh Tamuli will be addressed, among others, by Ashok Kumar Sarma, MLA of Nalbari LAC, Hemanta Bhattacharya, Superintendent of Police, Nalbari and Biren Chakravarty, Principal of Barnagar College.

In the programme, three social workers, namely, Rajkumar Bajaj, Ashok Bajaj and Krishna Bajaj will be felicitated. The cultural programme will begin with the presentation of a ghazal by Dr Subhra Kingkar Goswami, a physician of the district.

Memorial tomb opened: A memorial tomb and a swahid bedi constructed by the Bilpar-Narikuchi-Nizkhata Gaon Unnayan Samiti at the premises of Bilpar Basudev Gosainghar was inaugurated in a function held on October 5. The memorial tomb was inaugurated by Jogendra Nath Kalita, Principal of Ghograpar-Banbhag Junior College. The secretary of the gaon unnayan samiti, Niranjan Deka offered garlands on the tomb after its imagination.

The swahid bedi was inaugurated by Himan Barman, organising secretary of AASU while Akshay Deka, general secretary of Nalbari district unit of AASU garlanded it.
