Shahil clinches gold in C�wealth chess

GUWAHATI, July 1 � Young chess prodigy Shahil Dey of Assam clinched the gold medal in the U-8 category of the Commonwealth Chess Championship that concluded in New Delhi yesterday.

Top seed Shahil scored 6.5 points in 8 rounds and clinched the championship.

Shahil is also the current national U-7 champion and would be representing India in the Asian and World Youth Championship to be held in South Korea and Greece in August and October respectively this year.

The All Assam Chess Association (ad-hoc committee) congratulated Shahil for his achievement, state a release.
