NEW DELHI, Oct 20 - Finance Minister of Assam and convenor of the North East Democratic Alliance, Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday met BJP national president Amit Shah to firm up an election strategy for the Manipur Assembly polls scheduled to be held next year.

Replying to questions, Sarma said the BJP in Assam is going to contest the Lakhimpur Lok Sabha bye-election on its own. This is because the seat was represented by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal.

As reported, Dr Ranoj Pegu of Gana Shakti Party has shown interest in contesting the seat.

About the selection of candidate for the byepoll, Sarma said the State Election Committee would meet soon to select the candidate and refer it to the BJP Parliamentary Board.
