SGBG drive against use of plastic

By Staff reporter

GUWAHATI, May 19 Asking for public participation in making the city clean and green and also in maintaining the traffic rules and regulations to keep the city roads hassle-free, the Save Guwahati Build Guwahati (SGBG) has appealed common people to help the authorities to make the city more livable.

The SGBG members today started an awareness campaign against use of plastic and distributed leaflets among people in Panbazar area. The NGO also appealed the people to obey traffic rules. Every Guwahatian has a role to play in building the city, and solving its various problems. If we contribute our bit in this regard, Guwahati would become a better place to live in, said SGBG president Dhiren Baruah.

Baruah also said that people should develop a habit of carrying their own bags made of cloth or paper to avoid using plastic carry bags. The shop keepers should discourage the use of plastic by charging extra money for that.

Asking the GMC to take firm action against the defaulters, he said that by delegating its responsibilities to the private firms, the corporation has failed to meet the expectations of the people.

If each one of us obeys the traffic rules throughly, there wont be any traffic chaos on the roads. During the traffic jams also, a little patience shown by us can help the traffic men manage the situation in a better way. Parking the car in a no-parking zone or practice of double parking should be strictly avoided, the leaflets prepared by SGBG mentioned. It also asked the two wheelers not to create chaotic situations on the roads.

The SGBG leaflets carrying the appeals would be distributed in different parts of the city.
