SGBG condemns Mamata comments on complete draft

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Aug 1 - Founder president of the voluntary organisation Save Guwahati Build Guwahati (SGBG) Dhiren Barua, its secretary Kailas Sarma and vice president Ajoy Duttatoday condemned the statements made by West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee against the National Register of Citizens (NRC) updating process.

They demanded immediate legal action against the West Bengal Chief Minister for her inflammatory utterances, which have the potential to tarnish the image of the indigenous peoples of Assam and pose a grave threat to the age-old amity among various communities living in the State.

In a joint statement, the three office-bearers of the voluntary organization described Banerjees statements on the NRC as the products of her sinister designs to disrepute Assams indigenous peoples and also to divide them to gain a political mileage.

What the West Bengal Chief Minister is doing these days is aimed at gaining popularity among the voters of West Bengal and with that aim in view, she is trying to set Assam on fire, they said in the statement.

It may be mentioned that Mamata Banerjee, in her comments following the publication of the complete NRC draft on July 30, said the exclusion of over 40 lakh people from the Register would lead to a civil war and bloodshed, sparking a huge controversy and widespread condemnation across Assam.
