SGBG asks Jal Board to make Chenikuthi road convenient

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, July 31 - Save Guwahati Build Guwahati (SGBG) today demanded immediate corrective steps from the Guwahati Jal Board to make the Chenikuthi KK Bhatta Road comfortable for road users.

In a statement issued by its president Krishno Kanto Borooah, vice president Ajoy Dutta and advisor Dhiren Baruah, the organisation alleged that the Jal Board, all of a sudden, laid a water supply pipe on the MC Road end on July 27 without bothering about the inconveniences it caused to road users pedestrians as well as vehicle drivers. The one-foot diameter pipe has been so laid that it has made a portion of the road redundant for commuters. This has narrowed down the already narrow KK Bhatta Road, which has assumed a great significance for road users during this time of increasing road congestion in the city due to its burgeoning vehicular population, said the SGBG office-bearers. They warned that after the summer vacation, things will become worse for all those using this road.

The KK Bhatta Road connects the MC Road at Uzanbazar and the Navagraha Road at Silpukhuri. The water supply pipe line connecting these areas was laid sometime back, leaving this portion of the KK Bhatta Road untouched. But on July 27, the Jal Board laid the water supply pipes to connect the KK Bhatta Road pipeline with the main supply network on MC Road. The Jal Board, instead of laying the pipe line below the surface, laid it above the surface, resulting in great inconvenience for the road users.
