GUWAHATI, Jan 10 Voluntary organisation Save Guwahati Build Guwahati (SGBG) has appealed to the people of Guwahati to make taking along a bag a habit whenever they visit any of the markets. This is very important in order to do away with the menace created by the polythene bags, the voluntary organisation said.

It said in a press release that the polythene bags are clogging the city drains and littering public places and streets of the city adding to its flash flood problem and its notoriety as a dirty city of the country.

It is high time the Guwahatians engage themselves in making the city an attractive metropolis of the country in a dedicated manner.

The Guwahatians should start a campaign also to make their fellow people aware of the need to dispose the solid wastes at the designated places to make the city a clean one. This could be done through developing good, environment-friendly habits. For this, one needs to make oneself conscious about ones duty to the society, it said.

It also maintained that the Guwahati Municipal Corporation should also extend support to the initiatives to keep Guwahati clean and making it a pollution-free city.
