Severe waterlogging in LGBI Airport area

By Staff reporter

GUWAHATI, July 30 Severe waterlogging was witnessed in the LGBI Airport this morning, disrupting transportation to the airport and giving a harrowing time to those going to and coming out from the airport.

The deluge the exact cause of which has not been ascertained affected the main road and parking lot 9, affecting vehicular movement to and from the airport.

The water from the parking lot was stated to be cleared to some extent later.

None from the Airports Authority of India was available for any comment on the situation despite repeated attempts by The Assam Tribune.

Persons who witnessed the inundation said that the water-logging had started several days back and gained in dimension with passing days. The deluge was at its worst today and was deep enough to cause a halt to vehicular movement, a commuter said.

The waterlogging was attributed to the Brahmaputra by some, while some others said it was large-scale rainwater run-off from the denuded hills nearby.
