Several city roads need urgent repair

By CITY CORRESPONDENT

GUWAHATI, Oct 9 - Residents of several areas in the city are battling potholed roads in their localities and allege that the apathetic attitude of the departments concerned is responsible for the deplorable condition of the roads. At present, every road in the city has potholes. The commuters are penalized for violating traffic norms, but there should also be a provision for penalizing the civic authorities for not performing their duties, Dhrubajyoti Sarma, a city resident said.

There are hundreds of roads in the city, mainly in the interior parts of the city, which need urgent repairing, he added. One such road is the one that connects Ali Ahmed Nagar and Juripar area. The road has been in a deplorable condition, replete with potholes, for the last six years.

The condition of the road is miserable. Due to potholes, the residents and the motorists face hardship every day. The repair work on the road was started in 2014 and it was left incomplete. Waterlogging occurs even when there is a brief spell of rain in the area, one Majibur Rahman said.

There are no side drains, due to which the road remains waterlogged during the monsoon season. The residents of the locality cannot go outside even when there is a light shower. It has not yet been completed despite repeated requests for improvement of the remaining part of the road. We urge the authority concerned to repair the road immediately, he added.

There are other such roads which need urgent attention from the authority concerned. These roads include Baluram Basumatary Path, Kheraikuchi; Rajmohan Boro Path, Fatasil Ambari, and Puberun Path, Bagharbari, among others.
