Services of Bhadrakrishna Goswami recalled

GUWAHATI, July 27 - The distinguished services of former Asam Sattra Mahasabha chief Bhadrakrishna Goswami as a revolutionary sattadhikar, writer and social reformer were discussed at a condolence meeting held at the Pensioners� Bhawan here today with senior journalist DN Chakravartty in the chair.

Chakravartty dwelt at length on the contributions of Goswami as a schoolteacher, journalist and social worker. He said Goswami was a pioneer in the field of taking the message of �Mahapurushiya dharma� of Srimanta Sankaradeva to the deprived communities of the State including tea tribe communities and various sections of the tribal populace.

�As a founder member of the Guwahati Senior Citizens� Association (GSCA), the Journalist Pensioners� Association and the Media Trust, Goswami contributed immensely for the growth and development of journalism in particular and socio-economic development of the State in general,� he said.

Chakravartty added that Goswami fulfilled the unfinished task of the great sattradhikar Pitambar Deva Goswami for transmitting the message of saints Sankaradeva and Madhabdeva to all sections of society, especially the weaker sections.

Uttam Baruah, Nilakanta Nath, Mohini Kumar Gogoi, Krishna Lahkar and Hemchandra Sarma, while recollecting their association with Goswami, described him as a noble person and a great Assamese social reformer.

The meeting by a resolution conveyed sympathies to Goswami�s bereaved family.
