Sepak takraw players feted

GUWAHATI, Nov 5 � The Assam Sepak Takraw Association (ASTA) today felicitated the State teams which earned laurels for the State in the recently concluded 25th Senior National Sepak Takraw Championship at Bareilly.

In a well attended function at the Landmark Hotels here today, the State sepak takraw body honoured the gold medal and silver medal (regu) winning women teams and the bronze medal winning men team in a befitting manner.

Welcoming the gathering, ASTA secretary Bishnu Ram Nunisa explained about the training schedule and hard work of the players and the officials for which they have been able to win a gold medal for the first time in the senior national championship. He also revealed that as both the women and the men teams were qualified for the for the forthcoming National Games to be held in Kerala, the State government has promised full support in preparing the teams.

ASTA president Sarat Borkotoky, local MLA Robin Bordoloi, SAI city centre director in-charge Subhash Basumatary, journalists Premadhar Sharma, Subodh Malla Baruah, former international athlete Taibun Nesa, sports organiser Lila Gogoi were present on the occasion and they hailed the teams for their laudable show in the senior nationals. They also hoped that this team will perform well in the National Games. Before start of the function floral tributes were paid to Dr Bhupen Hazarika on his third death anniversary.
