By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Dec 28 - The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Assam Pradesh while condemning the attack by the Congress on its workers today before the Rajiv Bhawan here, has demanded the immediate arrest of MLAs Nilamani Sen Deka and Rupjyoti Kurmi for their alleged derogatory remarks against BJP leaders.

Nilamani Sen Deka had made an objectionable remark against Union Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Irani, while Rupjyoti Kurmi had made an offensive observation about Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Addressing media persons here, State BJP president Sarbananda Sonowal described todays incident as pre-planned by the Congress and said that the attack on the peaceful protesters of the saffron party has once again exposed the criminal streak of the Congress that has no respect for women.

The BJP has decided to file FIRs against the two MLAs and also against those Congress members who led the attack on the BJP protesters.

Sonowal said that the Congress has set a bad precedent in State politics by stooping so low as to make derogatory remarks against BJP leaders which is particularly insulting to women in general.

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi must tender a public apology and exemplary punishment should be meted out to the two MLAs and those Congress workers that led the attack against the peaceful BJP protesters, insisted Sonowal.

The BJP has also demanded release of all its arrested workers and adequate medical treatment for its injured members.

It needs to be mentioned here that 16 BJP members sustained injuries during the protest. On the other hand, police picked up several BJP members including 10 women protesters.

"We have so far identified seven Congress workers who attacked our protesters and we demand that the police act in a neutral manner and arrest them," said Sonowal.

On the other hand, Himanta Biswa Sarma said that barbarism of the Congress was reflected in todays development. Sarma said that Congress has a criminal tendency and its members are seasoned criminals. These Congress members are no ordinary political workers. They are trained criminals, he said warning APCC president Anjan Dutta not to use provocative language.
