Seminar on food waste and conservation today

GUWAHATI, Jan 21 - The System Research Society, as part of the ongoing national campaign for reducing food wastage �Don�t You Waste Food� (DYWF) Campaign, is organising a seminar at Hotel Pragati Manor here tomorrow.

The seminar will be inaugurated by Dr Alak Kumar Buragohain, former vice chancellor of Dibrugarh University. Other guests to attend the seminar are journalists Maini Mahanta and Nava Thakuria.

�The one-day seminar will discuss multiple aspects of food waste and conservation. It intends to recognise the value that requires to be associated with food today. This seminar is a platform to discuss the various solutions that can be implemented to reduce food wastage at all levels. The notable speakers and delegates are invitees from the administration, armed forces, academia, and all those who think that food waste is an issue they need to draw an immediate attention to. This event aims to create awareness amongst people so that a life of non-wastage can be realised,� a statement said.

DYWF Campaign is an awareness programme, aimed at reducing food wastage at individual, household and institutional levels, thereby creating an impact at the local, national and global level. DYWF is a call-to-action plan of UNDP�s Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) to improve the social and economic conditions of people across the globe. The 12th goal of SDG aims at responsible production and consumption, the thrust of which is to �reduce food wastage by 50 per cent at production and consumption levels� by 2030.

Meanwhile, a team of delegates from System Research Society today met Governor Prof Jagdish Mukhi to discuss the campaign.
