GUWAHATI, Aug 16 - �The self-reliability revolution initiated by the youths of the Sootea constituency has not only increased their self-respect but has also contributed to the economic growth of the State by facilitating a conducive environment through mass awakening. This will inspire Assam�s youths to explore self-employment opportunities and encourage them to strive for economic development. The journey started by the 2,000 young people towards self-reliance will be able to show the right path to the youths of the State to achieve economic development,� stated a press release quoting Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today. He was speaking at a function for the inclusion of individual beneficiaries under the State Government scheme at Chariduar in Sonitpur district.
Saying that no race could aspire to achieve success without a thriving work culture, Sonowal urged the youths to emulate the example of States like Rajasthan where agricultural progress is being achieved despite barren lands and scarce water resources. Following the ideals of hard work propagated by icons like Jyotiprasad Agarwala, the youths must strive to increase agricultural production by taking advantage of Assam�s fertile farming lands, he said.
The mass awakening achieved for economic development by the SHG members of Sootea under the leadership of MLA Padma Hazarika must be emulated by other groups in rest of the State, Sonowal opined.
Referring to the Act East Policy implemented by the Central Government, Sonowal said there is a larger market available for the products of the State in entire South-East Asia and BBN region with a population of 80 million people.
Sootea MLA Padma Hazarika explained how self-reliance was achieved by the beneficiaries while P&RD Minister Naba Kumar Doley and Tezpur MP Pallab Lochan Das also spoke on the occasion. Media Adviser to the Chief Minister Hrishikesh Goswami was also present at the programme, among other dignitaries.�
Later, the Chief Minister inaugurated a gamusa and traditional attire manufacturing industry set up by Kanayaka at Chariduar. He also interacted with the weavers of the industry.
Inaugurating the industry, Sonowal said Mahatma Gandhi once remarked that Assam�s weavers could weave dreams in their looms and it highlighted the skill and talent of the State�s weavers. He urged the weavers to increase the production of gamusa for stopping the import of the item from other States by strengthening the industry, added the release.
Sonowal presents Sonitkonwar Gajen Baruah Award: The Chief Minister conferred the Sonitkonwar Gajen Baruah Award 2019 to the noted dramatist, educationist and director Bhaben Bora at a function held at Jamugurihat in Sonitpur district, stated another press release issued today.
The award carries a citation, a sarai, an angabastra�and a cheque worth Rs 2 lakh.
