Security stepped up in State

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Sept 7 Although a high alert has been sounded across the country following today's blast in the national capital, no specific threat perception exists for Assam, top Assam Police sources claimed.

However, as per the customary practice, security arrangements have been stepped up, especially in the capital city and few other districts of lower Assam.

As per the directions, security arrangement in the State was reviewed following the Delhi blast to assess the situation and avert any untoward incidents, said a senior Assam Police official while talking to this reporter.

He further informed that deployment of paramilitary forces is likely to be rearranged in certain parts of the State.

Meanwhile, Senior Superintendent of Police (City) Deepak Choudhury, when contacted, said, "At this moment, there is no specific threat percept of any kind of terrorist attack. However, as there was a blast in the national capital this morning, forces have been put on alert."

"We are continuously assessing the situation and have intensified the security arrangements in and around Guwahati," Choudhury said.

A source in the department further informed that the Assam Police headquarters has asked all the officer-in-charges of the police stations in Guwahati to carry out round-the-clock especially in areas where anti-social elements could be holed up.
