Security stepped up for BJP executive

GUWAHATI, Jan 7 � A security blanket has been thrown across the capital city in view of the Bharatiya Janata Party�s (BJP) two-day national executive committee meeting which begins tomorrow.

Police said that elaborate security arrangements have been made around Hotel Brahmaputra Ashok, the venue for the meeting, besides other hotels and venues where top leadership of the saffron party would be putting up.

The Veterinary College playground at Khanapara, where the party leaders will address a public meeting on January 9, has also been put under consistent surveillance by police and Para military forces.

Raj Bhawan and the Circuit House would also house some of the senior BJP leaders during their stay at Guwahati.

This is the first time when all the top leaders of the party, besides Chief Ministers of the seven BJP-ruled State are meeting in Guwahati. On the eve of the national executive meeting, 35 state presidents of the party, its general secretaries (organization) and national general secretaries under the chairmanship of Nitin Gadkari discussed organizational and other issues in a meeting held here during the day.

�The entry of unauthorised persons will be restricted and instructions have been issued to frisk all the visitors to these places,� Senior Superintendent of Police (City) Pradeep Chandra Saloi told The Assam Tribune.

Saloi further stated that fool-proof security arrangements have been put in place and adequate deployment of security forces has been ensured as per the requirement of each individual.

It needs mention here that both LK Advani and firebrand Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi have Z-plus security.

�We are taking no chances with the security arrangements and fool-proof security cover has been put in place as per the instructions from the Home Department,� another senior Assam Police official, adding, �Security arrangements would be consistently reviewed during the course of the meeting.
