Security forces alerted to foil ULFA terror plan

GUWAHATI, Feb 24 � The hardline faction of the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA), headed by Paresh Baruah, has sent separate teams to Assam to indulge in acts of violence and the police and security forces have been alerted to thwart the ultras� attempts.

Police sources told The Assam Tribune that the Paresh Baruah faction is desperate to indulge in acts of violence to make its presence felt and the outfit is also making efforts to extort money from different sections of people of the State.

According to information available with police and security agencies, members of ULFA in small groups of five or six members, have managed to sneak into India and they are still in Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh bordering Assam.

Sources said that one group, headed by hardcore member Raktajit Hazarika, was entrusted with the responsibility of indulging in acts of violence in Dibrugarh district and the forces have been alerted to thwart any move by the group.

Another team headed by Nayan Medhi and Rajiv Das are in Majuli area but the main focus of the team at this moment is extortion and not any major violent activity, sources added.

Hardcore militant Babul Gogoi is believed to be in Changlang area of Arunachal Pradesh, while another wanted militant Lohit Das is also in the same area.
