Security beefed up in Cachar dist

SILCHAR, Aug 14 - Superintendent of Police, Cachar, Rakesh Roushan on Tuesday said that security arrangements have been tightened to ensure a safe celebration of the 72nd Independence Day in the district on Wednesday.

�Security arrangements have been beefed up keeping in view the sensitivity of the occasion such as the Independence Day. Constant vigil is being maintained across international and inter-State border areas of the district. All security agencies, fire and emergency services, NDRF, SDRF have been put on alert and specific plans have been chalked out to maintain peace during the celebration,� the SP said. He, however, said that even as there are no threats ahead of the I-day celebrations, police is closely monitoring the bordering areas between Assam and Manipur.

On the other hand, Cachar Deputy Commissioner Dr S Laxmanan informed that elaborate arrangements have been made to celebrate the spirit of independence in a befitting manner. The main celebrations will be held at the SM Dev stadium wherein State Power Minister Pallab Lochan Das will be hoisting the Tricolour. Conveying his wishes for the people of Cachar district, Dr Laxmanan said, �At this hour of celebrating the spirit of freedom we must resolve to dedicate ourselves towards the cause of nation building.�

Freedom fighters Mahesh Narayan Das, Arati Das and Surendra Sinha will be felicitated and meritorious students will also be felicitated,� the Deputy Commissioner said.
