IMPHAL, April 23 - The District Election Officer (DEO) of Imphal East, Dr Rangitabali Waikhom, today said that security has been tightened and strict vigil is being kept on the 12 polling stations where repolling is scheduled tomorrow.

Talking to reporters, DEO Dr Rangitabali said that the presiding officers would be gazetted officers comprising ACs, DCs, SDOs and SDCs. Polling officers have also been selected on the basis of experience. Moreover, to ensure transparency and avoid unwanted incidents, randomisation of the polling personnel was done in the presence of the general observer of the election.

The DEO appealed to the voters to ensure peaceful and smooth election, and specifically urged the BLOs to verify the identity of voters properly.

She reiterated that voters can cast their votes by producing any one of the 12 accepted documents. Three AROs will supervise the repoll. Webcasting of all the polling stations will be done, she added.

District SP Jogeshchandra Haobijam said that adequate security would be provided to all polling stations with two CRPF platoons each to five polling stations. The rest seven polling stations will have one CRPF platoon each. In addition to this, 40 State police personnel will be deployed in each station.

It may be mentioned here that repoll will be held in 12 polling stations belonging to four Assembly constituencies five polling stations under Heigang constituency, one under Thongju, four under Keirao and two under Andro constituency.
