Security alert over ULFA threat

By Staff reporter

GUWAHATI, April 6 Certain pockets of Lower and Upper Assam stay vulnerable in view of the ULFAs raising day on April 7, while there does not appear any specific threat to Guwahati, a top Assam Police source claimed.

However, a general alert has been sounded across the State and security forces have been mobilised as per the requirements.

The source claimed that intelligence inputs corroborated that the outfit might try to create subversive activities to make its presence felt. It also claimed that movement of ULFA cadres has also been reported, especially in the bordering areas.

Another senior Assam Police official, when asked, informed that security personnel have been stationed in strategic locations and vital installations have been virtually cordoned off.

In Guwahati too, checking has been intensified, especially at entry points and market areas.

Although, there is no specific threat, all the police stations been given specific instructions to maintain round-the-clock vigil, a City Police official stated.

We are working in coordination with the paramilitary forces and leaving no stone unturned to ensure foolproof security. Citizens too are requested to cooperate and report immediately if they come across any suspicious movement, he added.
