TURA, March 27 The West Garo Hills district administration today promulgated section 144 CrPC in the district in response to a bandh call made by the Plain Belt District Demand Committee in protest against non-fulfillment of their demand.

The Committee has called a shutdown of the plain belt region from 6 am to 6 pm on Wednesday and Thursday, this week.

Meanwhile, the Garo Students Union has strongly opposed the demand made by the Plain Belt District Demand Committee for creation of a separate district with its headquarters at Rajpur.

The GSU will not allow such organisation to divide Garo Hills for non-tribals. The Union is very much aware that the creation of such a district will only help multiplication of non-tribals in that area and the local indigenous people residing in that area will be suppressed, stated the GSU.

The student body has warned the plain belt district demand committee not to go ahead with their demand for creation of such a district which they say is unacceptable by the Garos.

The Union has also urged the State Government to ignore their demand as it may disturb the peace and tranquility in the region.
