Second phase of Gunotsav from Oct 31

HAILAKANDI, Aug 29 - The three-day second phase of Gunotsav will be held in Hailakandi district from October 31 next. Altogether 1359 primary, upper primary and secondary schools will be covered in this phase. Altogether 84,891 students of class II to IX will be covered during the evaluation. The preparation for holding the annual evaluation process is on full swing in the district.

Gunotsav is a quality enhancement initiative of the State for bringing about improvement in learning levels of students at elementary level.

It can be mentioned here that the first phase of Gunotsav was held in April last year in Hailakandi district and was placed seventh in the state-level evaluation. Gunotsav was held in 1519 schools and 66,377 students were covered. Only 3% schools received A+ grade while 32% schools received D grade in the district. Assessment was done in last year on four core areas viz Academic achievement of children of Class-II to VIII, co-scholastic activities, availability and utilization of school infrastructure and other facilities and community participation etc.

Sarva Siksha Abhiyan sources in Hailakandi said that 489 external evaluators have already been selected for the evaluation in the schools. Two nodal officers and 127 liaison officers have been appointed for the purpose.

The evaluation process of the students have also been modified in the second phase. District prograame officer of SSA, Gautam Deb who is also a master trainer of Gunotsav said that instead of dictation, the students of class II will be asked to write two complete sentences and three words. Instead of dictation, there will be �creative writing� on particular topic or theme for the students of class III to IX. The external evaluation will be held on the first day of Gunotsav while the internal evaluation will be held on November 1 and 2.

He informed that SSA has already completed training for the different types of personnel engaged in Gunotsav. District Development Commissioner-cum-district mission coordinator of SSA in Hailakandi, FR Laskar is looking after the process of Gunotsav.
