DULIAJAN, Feb 16 The 2nd Jeypore Rainforest Festival, being organised jointly by Dibrugarh district administration and Assam Tourism Development Corporation with a three-day programme, will get under way tomorrow at Jeypore in Dibrugarh district.

The festival is being organised as a tribute to rich biodiversity of the Jeypore rainforest and to the heritage of art and culture of the ethnic tribes and communities. Exciting and adventurous events are planned during the festival like, elephant rides, boating, trekking, colourful ethnic cultural procession, ethnic cultural performances of songs, dance, ethnic dress show, sale-cum-exhibition of ethnic artifacts, marathon race, beach volleyball, quiz and painting competitions, seminar on eco-tourism and many more. The organisers say the festival is going to be a treat for the connoisseurs of art and culture, lovers of local cuisines, adventure-seekers, bird-watchers and those who love traditional games and sports and serene landscape of the rainforest.

It is worth mentioning here that the Jeypore rainforest, which is a sprawling forest landscape of upper Assam with the Buri-Dihing river meandering through it, is a hotbed of biodiversity that can rival the best tropical rainforests in South-east Asia.
