SILCHAR, Feb 13 - Rubbishing the rumours of winding up of the regional offices of the Board of Secondary Education (SEBA) at Silchar and Jorhat, Ramesh Chandra Jain, chairman of SEBA claimed on Tuesday that such centres have been opened in each district to cater to the requirements of the students.
Interestingly, this clarification from the SEBA chairman came a day after reports of shutting down of the regional offices at the two centres were doing rounds. The reports also mentioned transfer of the Assistant Superintendent at Jorhat Regional Office to the Technical and Certificate Branch (Unit-II).
�No steps have been taken to wind up the regional offices at Silchar and at Jorhat. We have, in fact, opened similar centres at each district to facilitate the examination proceedings,� Jain was quoted as saying. He added to say that henceforth, the regional offices will be operating from the Office of the Inspector of Schools of respective districts.
Meanwhile, when asked about his reactions on this issue, Education Minister Siddhartha Bhattacharya who was in Silchar to inaugurate a Government scheme for the farmers said, �I am not aware of any such decision taken by the SEBA. However, I believe that the regional offices should be kept to decentralise the operations in the interest of the people and I shall speak to the officials in this matter.�
It may be mentioned that the regional office here was opened on February 21, 2016 at the premises of Government Boys� Higher Secondary School by former Congress Minister Ajit Singh in the presence of Silchar MP Susmita Dev, and SEBA secretary Kamal Jyoti Gogoi along with Inspector of Schools of three districts. The office, however, is struggling to operate with poor infrastructure and lack of attention from the authorities.
