By Correspondent

TURA, July 7 - The search for the missing body of the six year-old who was brutally murdered by a 26 year-old man continued for the second day today in Kharkutta police station area in North Garo Hills district of Meghalaya.

The severed head of the minor girl was found in the Manda stream near Daglapara in Goalpara, Assam while the body is still missing.

On July 5 at about 3 pm, one Silsrang Marak from Mapilsiram village went to the house of the victim in Bolmedang village while her parents were away and lured the girl from her home on the pretext of hunting crabs.

While details are still unclear as to what happened after, the murderer apparently completed his act on the same night.

The suspect was seen throwing a bag containing the severed head of the girl after which he was given chase by villagers from Kentra. He was finally caught at Damra, in Goalpara and taken into custody by Assam police.

He has not provided any information on why he murdered the girl. He said he dumped her body in the Manda river but did not provide exact details. The severed head of the girl was found by villagers near Daglapara but the search for her body continues, said acting SP, Billygraham Marak.

The SP further stated that the severed head of the girl was handed over to the clan members and parents for performance of the last rites of the girl.

We cannot rule out sexual assault but need to find the rest of the girls body to confirm it. The suspect has been illegible in his speech. We are still questioning him, added the SP.
