SDF MLA challenges Chamling

By Correspondent

GANGTOK, June 27 Dissident Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) MLA from East Sikkim, PS Tamang (Golay) attended the budget session of the State Assembly for the first time after being sworn in in 2009.

The session assumes significance particularly since the rebel MLA from the ruling SDF party left no stones unturned in launching a scathing attack on the Chief Minister Pawan Chamling or the policies of the SDF Government, openly showing his defiance in the floor of the house by not getting up on Chamlings arrival as the Leader of the House.

About 6,000 supporters of Golay were present outside the Assembly and in the main road, braving the torrential downpor amidst huge armed police presence in riot gear.

During the question hour, Golay challenged the Pawan Chamling Government to come out with a whitepaper on alleged corruption in the hydropower sector as was reported in the media amounting to Rs. 50,000 crores or initiate immediate action to punish the culprits. He took up cudgels against the SDF Government on issues of alleged misuse and corruption in the earthquake relief funds which the State received after the September 18, 2011 major quake that hit the Himalayan State.
