Scribes condemn attack on colleague

DIBRUGARH, Aug 30 - The media fraternity here has strongly condemned the reported attack on Avik Chakravorty, a stringer of a local daily, by some armed youths at Paanchali area recently and demanded that the culprits be booked immediately.

The reporter was manhandled and threatened by some armed youths while on duty at Paanchali area during the district bandh on August 24. An FIR was subsequently lodged in this regard.

In a meeting convened at the Dibrugarh Press Club, the mediapersons expressed their shock at the indifferent attitude of the police at the hooliganism of some armed youths in the city on that day.

Members from the Dibrugarh Press Club and Greater Dibrugarh Press Club while condemning the attack on the mediaperson, also condemned the attack on newspaper agencies like Surabhi Sahitya Kutir, News Corner, Probahika (Partho Sarathi) and others by the supporters of the bandh.

The journalists demanded that the district administration ensure security of the mediapersons and newspaper sellers.
