GUWAHATI, Sept 15 Journalists in Guwahati today boycotted Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopras press conference organised by the Dalmia Cement Bharat Ltd., to celebrate the success of the film Mary Kom, in which Priyanka has played the role of five-time world boxing champion Mary Kom.
Mismanagement on the part of the organisers led to a tussle between the journalists and the security staff of hotel Radisson Blu, which was the venue of the press conference. Initially, the print and electronic media journalists were not allowed inside the hotel campus by the security staff. The journalists got infuriated further, as there was no one from the Dalmia Cement or the event organisers to clear the confusion.
Though the companys representatives apologized later, the journalists present on the spot decided to boycott the press conference. Later a communiqu from the company also apologized for the inconvenience caused to the mediapersons.
Later, while talking to the media at a different venue in the city Priyanka Chopra said that the success of Mary Kom has set a high bar for women- centric films in Bollywood. Both I and Mary tried at our levels to screen the film in Manipur. But this decision was beyond our limits. I wish that her State people could have seen her struggle and her glory through the film, she said.
