Scribes assaulted at Tezpur

TEZPUR, April 8 � Four scribes serving in three different news channels from Tezpur station were allegedly assaulted by some unscrupulous people on Monday night while they were busy in collecting reports of an accident case at Potiapukhuri near Da-Parbatia under Tezpur Police Station. The seriously injured scribes are Pulak Kumar Deka and Amitabh Saikia of News Live, Arnab Kumar Nath of Pratidin Time and Apurba Patangia of a local channel Agniban.

Different organisations including jornalists bodies Sonitpur Press Club, Sonitpur Journalist�s Union, JFA, AAJU and AASU have vehemently condemned the act and demanded the authority concerned to apprehend the culprits immediately and give exemplary punishment.

The four scribes on Tuesday got in touch with the Deputy Commissioner and the Superintendent of Police to inform them about the incident. They also lodged two separate FIRs.

The road mishap had taken place at the site wherein two cyclists were knocked down by a truck resulting in serious injury to them. Following the incident, some irate people of the area tried to set the truck afire. Receiving the information, the four scribes rushed to the spot to collect the report when they were allegedly assaulted by the irate people.
