GUWAHATI, July 20 Journalist Gaurav Jyoti Neog was today arrested by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) in connection with the July 9 GS Road molestation incident.

A team of investigators picked up Neog from his residence located at Survey this evening around 6 pm.

The journalists role in the entire July 9 incident has been under scanner after Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti leader Akhil Gogoi alleged that Neog played a lead role in the entire molestation episode. Neog was arrested under Sections 504, 34 and 294 of the IPC.

While Section 504 relates to intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace, Sec 294 denotes indulging in obscene acts in public place. Sec 34 relates to a criminal act done by several persons in furtherance of the common intention.

Investigators had earlier recorded voice samples of the journalist and sent them to the Forensic Science Laboratory for matching. The forensic examination report is still awaited. Neog will be produced before the court tomorrow.

Police have already identified seventeen accused based on the video footage, of whom 12 have already been arrested.
