Scribe bodies plea to State govt

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, June 28 The All Assam Media Employees Federation (AAMEF) and Journalists Forum Assam (JFA) have appealed to the Assam government to release the advertisement bill payments for the newspapers regularly with the enhanced rates, but at the same time, the media bodies also urged the newspaper managements to implement the recommendations of Majithia Wage Board, which was recently endorsed by the Supreme Court of India.

While extending moral support to the owners of newspapers of northeast India in getting their dues from the governments, the AAMEF and JFA politely reminded that most of the media houses, except TheAssam Tribune Group of newspapers, are yet to implement the statutory Wage Board recommendations that would benefit their employees with a systematic pay hike.

Non-implementation of the recommendations of the Majithia Wage Board in the newspaper houses might invite serious consequences for the state government because it is responsible for the implementation of the statutory Wage Board as well as the owners of newspapers, as it would finally go against the spirit of a verdict pronounced by the apex court of the country, said a statement.
