GUWAHATI, March 1 - The National Science Day was celebrated in the Department of Biotechnology, Gauhati University, by the Gauhati University Biotech Forum (GUBF) in collaboration with the Institutional Biotech Hub, Dakshin Kamrup College, Mirza.

This year it was a two-day celebration in the Department of Biotechnology based on the theme, �Science and technology for specially-abled persons� as proposed.

The celebrations started on Monday with various competitions such as science debate, model display competition, painting competition and photography competition. The competitions enlisted the participation of students not only from the various departments of the varsity but also from students of many colleges affiliated to the GU.

On the following day the celebrations started with an activity for specially-abled children from Destination, Kahilipara. A host of dignitaries, including Professor Hiralal Duarah, ex-VC, GU, Dr Kalpana Duarah, retired professor of Physics, GU, and Anisul Haque, founder and director, Resonance Brand Communications, attended the meet.

Dr Kalpana Duarah delivered a lecture on the theme of Science Day. The first issue of the newsletter of the Department of Biotechnology Biotech Bulletin was also released on the occasion.
