Science communicators� meet begins in Imphal

IMPHAL, March 19 - Deputy Chief Minister Yumnam Joykumar Singh inaugurated the 11th Science Communicators� Meet (11th Rashtriya Vigyan Sancharak Sammelan) as part of the ongoing 105th edition of Indian Science Congress at Manipur University�s Canchipur campus here.

Dr AK Saxena, former General President of Indian Science Congress Association(ISCA), Prof Adya Prasad Pandey, Vice-Chancellor of Manipur University, Prof PP Mathur, Prof Gangadhar, both General Secretary of ISCA, Prof N Rajmuhon Singh of Manipur University who is the convenor of the event, also attended the inaugural function.

Speaking at the inaugural session, Deputy Chief Minister Joykumar Singh said many new innovations have been made to ensure safety while applying new technologies and methods for human benefit. New findings should be communicated to the people, especially to the unreached so that it can be applied in their day-to-day lives, he said. A lot of changes have been made through science and technology for bettering human lives.

Insisting on opening science centres in remote areas, Joykumar Singh said they would be helpful in communicating with the unreached about the basic concepts of science so that they can understand what science is all about. He further said, a lot of research work should be done to preserve and protect the environment, to control pollution and to provide clean and renewable energy etc, in order to sustain human livelihood.

He exuded confidence that the theme �Reaching the Unreached through Science & Technology� itself explains the importance of science communication.
